About Samvaad and Girlup Jeevika

About Girl Up Jeevika
Girl Up is a girl-centered leadership development initiative founded by the United Nations Foundation. We focus on creating an equitable world for girls and women across the globe, taking one needed action at a time.
Girl Up Jeevika is the Pune-based faction of Girl Up, now in its second year of operation. Our mission is to advance gender equality in Pune and empower local youth to become passionate advocates for gender rights. Through engaging workshops and fun events, we raise awareness about critical issues such as menstrual health, domestic violence, and gender-based injustice.
In our short history, we've made significant strides in educating and mobilizing Pune's youth. Looking ahead, we're committed to expanding our reach and impact, nurturing a new generation of leaders dedicated to creating a more equitable society.

About Samvaad

Derived from Sanskrit, meaning "constructive dialogue," Samvaad is equal parts intellectual playground and creative workshop. It is a space where we start conversations that matter, and speak up on pressing issues — all while bringing in fresh perspectives.

Why we Started

The idea of the blog was born out of our fundamental belief in the power of conversation as a catalyst for change. We noticed the discussions happening in our classrooms, college corridors, and chai tapris—and the significant disconnect when it comes to translating words into actions.
In an environment where free expression is often stifled, we wanted to create a safe space that helped amplify uncensored, honest dialogue that is often overlooked in mainstream discourse.

Our Structure

To achieve these goals, Samvaad operates on a monthly theme through two main channels:
  • The Editorial Corner: A space for in-depth analysis of pressing issues, featuring well-researched opinions and expert insights.
  • The Literary Corner: A creative outlet for poetry and prose that gives voice to experiences and ideas that might otherwise go unspoken.
